REC is a 2007 Spanish horror film co-written and directed by Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza.[3] The title comes from the use of the abbreviation of the word RECORD on video cameras. The film is in Spanish and was filmed in Barcelona, Spain.
The film was released with English subtitles in November 2007. Balaguero and Plaza previously directed the 2002 documentary OT, The Movie. REC was filmed using shaky camerawork as a found footage film. The film was remade, with most of the story line being identical apart from changing the demonic possession into a virus for Hollywood, in the United States as the 2008 film Quarantine. Two sequels were released; REC 2 in 2009, and REC 3: Genesis in 2012, and another film is planned to end the franchise.
